According to a blog post by Kaspersky Labs, Cyber Attack is increasing day by day. Total 45,000 cyber attacks have been recorded so far in 74 countries, mostly in Russia. A malware that affected the National Health Service ( NHS ) England is still making destruction in various part of the world.
The blog post mentioned that in total they have recorded more than 45,000 cyber threat in 74 countries but the actual figure may be much more than that. A ransomware “WannaCry” or “WannaCrypt” has already made a lot of havoc in many countries and many such ransomwares are active in different countries. The analysts say that the ransomware “WannaCry” or “WannaCrypt” is initiated through an SMBv2 remote code execution in Microsoft Windows. This exploit (codenamed “EternalBlue”) has been made available on the internet through the Shadowbrokers dump on April 14th, 2017 and patched by Microsoft on March 14. Unfortunately, it appears that many organisations have not yet installed the patch.”
Previously, many hospitals in England had to divert the emergency patients after being hit by suspected cyber attack. Then after many countries like including Turkey, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, the U.S., China, Spain, Italy and Taiwan with the majority of affected computers in Russia, started reporting the same kind of attacks.
The attack is from same ransomware is confirmed by the fact that all computers which were hit by attack had the same ransom message demanding $300 to get their data back as reported by The New York Times. A cyber attack was also reported by Portugal Telecom but their services were not affected by this attack. The Portugal Telecom’s reported said that though we had a cyber attack as most of the Europe is going through but it did not hamper our working.
